Tassels and Tunics: A Time Saving Summer Fashion Guide for Moms

Tassels & Tunics

Do you want to be fashionable like those “put together” moms that you see at the beach or park during summer, but you don’t think that you have the time? (I wrote “put together” in quotes because c’mon… who really has it all together?) It is easier than you might think! I am here to help. Being an independent stylist for Stella & Dot has its perks. I learn about trends and looks that coordinate with our pieces, and I can’t wait to share everything with you!

As a mom, wanting to be stylish can make me feel guilty like I am being selfish or something. I had to pull myself out of this mindset. It is A OK to be a hot mama! You don’t have to be over the top. It doesn’t mean that you are neglecting your kids. I noticed that once I decided to put in a little effort… it went a long way. I feel great when I like how I look. When I look “put together,” I feel more “put together.” This decreases my stress, and boosts my confidence.

So, treat yourself. Give yourself permission to do this for you. I know you work hard and deserve it. Here is my rundown of this summer’s hottest trends that are easy to wear, and beautiful. You might not always have time to tame your hair, or put on full face makeup… but accessorizing takes 5 seconds, and makes all of the difference.

Tassels

Tassels

Tassels aren’t just for Grads. From earrings, necklaces and sarongs… tassels are everywhere! If you are like me and most of the moms I know, you just feel better with a little more coverage at the beach. Sarongs are a summer time go to, and aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. What I like about sarongs are that they can easily transition to other seasons when worn like a scarf. If you are a working mama then earrings or necklaces are a great way to incorporate summer’s hottest look into business wear. Tassels are so fun!

Tunics

Tunics

Say it with me, “tunics are my friend.” What is easier then throwing on a tunic over your swimsuit? You look instantly chic! No matching top and bottom. No plain tank top and short combo. Grab your kiddos, beach bag, and go. Easy as that. I absolutely live in tunics during the summer. The mommy and me look below is so cute, and I would love to wear this with my daughter if they only carried baby sizes.

Sunnies

Sunnies

As in sunglasses. No make-up no problem. Aviators are my go to, but I realize they might not be everyone else’s favorite. I will include others, for those of you even though I HIGHLY recommend the aviators because they look so dang classy! Investing in sunglasses that actually protect your eyes from all the sun’s harmful rays are a must, especially as we age. I have light blue eyes that are high risk for cataracts, so my optometrist wants me wearing sunglasses even when it is overcast. Like I needed another excuse to purchase cute eyewear. Haha. I love throwing these on, and not fussing with mascara, eyeliner, and so on. Put them on and I am ready for the poolside.

Beach Bags

Beach Bags

Don’t ever under estimate the power of a cute beach bag. If jewelry isn’t your thing, you are stocked on everything else then look no further than a pretty bag. This is also a practical way to fancy up your look. You need to carry things with you when you go to the beach or pool, or ANYWHERE when you have small children especially. These bags can hold everything… sunscreen, snacks, and whatever else you might need. For me that also includes diapers, beach towel, bottles, floaty toys, and so on. Now go on, and add a super stylish bag to your summer time essentials.

Mixed Metals

Mixing Metals

This used to be the ultimate big “no no” for me. I thought it couldn’t be done in a way that looked good. Boy, was I wrong. Luckily style and tastes evolve. I feel so free now! I can mix silver with gold, and that means the combinations of accessories I have seem endless! Start with bangles just to see how you like it. You might even feel naughty at first, but trust me… your will receive compliments on your look, and you may even been seen as a “fashionista” without all of the hard work! It is especially easy because you have access to me, and I would love to help you pick out pieces to accent your personal style.
