My recipes are for the cooking impaired. If a dish requires more than about 5 ingredients then it will not be served in this household. I believe in letting the kiddos help. Making a meal together can create an opportunity to bond as a family. Make a mess, laugh, and enjoy. Grab your aprons and get to it!

 

Crockpot meals are great for letting the kids “cook” with you because you don’t have to work near heat. I cut the onion and green peppers, and let my son add it to the crockpot before I even turn it on. Since I have been letting him make dinner with me, he always volunteers to help me in the kitchen. Hopefully this will extend into his teenage years. Fingers Crossed! Haha 🙂

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 4 hours, 15 minutes

Yield: 4-8 Sandwiches

Sahvana's Famous Chicken Hoagies

Ingredients

  • 2-4 Chicken Breasts
  • 1 Yellow Onion
  • 2 Green Peppers
  • 1-2 Tbsp McCormick Montreal Steak Seasoning
  • Package of Hoagie Buns
  • Cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice the peppers and onions. Put half in the crockpot then place your chicken on top. It can be frozen or thawed. Take the other half of your sliced onion and peppers, and sprinkle them on top of the chicken. I sprinkle the Montreal Steak Seasoning on top until there is an light layer across the whole thing. Your family might like more or less depending on how spicy you want it. I go for a more mild flavor.
  2. Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8 hours or until the chicken shreds easily.
  3. I just use two forks to pull apart the chicken, and then I stir the mixture up in the crockpot.
  4. I like to toast the buns because the mixture tends to make the bread a little soggy, but it also tastes just as delicious on regular bread. (Sometimes I can't wait for toasted bread, this stuff is too yummy!)
  5. Scoop the desire amount onto your bread of choice.
  6. Add cheese if you like! Sometimes I like to put shredded mozzarella on top, but it is optional 🙂
  7. I usually serve these sandwiches with fries and/or a salad, and enjoy the yumminess!
  8. P.S. The leftovers are great to make sandwiches for lunch!
